The 2010 ADPI/ABI Annual Conference attracted just under 700 manufacturers, marketers and suppliers of manufactured dairy products from 16 different countries. Participants gathered for several days in Chicago, IL to hear prominent industry and government representatives discuss the state of the dairy industry and to network at the unique conference “where the dairy industry does business”.

The American Dairy Products Institute announced the second annual 2010 Jim Page Memorial Scholarship recipient, Cassie Tegeler, at the 2010 ADPI/ABI Annual Conference in Chicago, Illinois. Tegeler’s father, Tom, is an employee of Swiss Valley Farms Dairy Cooperative in Davenport, Iowa.

Andrew Ferrier, chief executive officer of Fonterra, said he anticipates "good, solid double-digit growth" in the Middle East and Africa as populations increase and consumers seek healthy products. He said the region accounts for about 10% of global revenues.

The issue of raw-milk consumption has sparked a debate between regulators and scientists who warn about its potential health threats and consumers who want to have the liberty to choose whether to take the risk. The interstate sale of unpasteurized milk is banned by the Food and Drug Administration, but states regulate its sale within their boundaries. Raw-milk sales have already been legalized in 27 states under certain conditions, and similar measures are pending in Wisconsin and Georgia.
