Agricluture Secretary Vilsack Announces Immediate Relief for Struggling Dairy Producers Friday, July 31, 2009 (587 reads)
Agriculture Secretary Vilsack has announced that the Obama Administration is taking immediate action to support struggling dairy farmers by increasing the amount paid for dairy products through the Dairy Product Price Support Program (DPPSP). USDA estimates show that these increases, which will be in place from August 2009 through October 2009, will increase dairy farmers' revenue by $243 million.

Agriculture Secretary Vilsack Says He's Working to Increase Dairy Price Supports Thursday, July 30, 2009 (599 reads)
U.S. Senators who represent farm states, have been told by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack that the USDA has agreed to raise the price support for dairy products as a first step to relieve hard-pressed dairy farmers across the nation. During a meeting to discuss how to address the plummeting milk prices, Vilsack said he's working with the Office of Management and Budget to temporarily increase the dairy price support program in order to help restore farm level prices, as well as producers' ability to produce basic cash flow for their operations.

House Vote Delays New Power for FDA Thursday, July 30, 2009 (514 reads)
The House has narrowly rejected legislation aimed at giving the Food and Drug Administration more authority and funding to police food safety. Certain key provisions in this House bill that has the potential to effect a majority of ADPI members include more frequent FDA inspections of processing facilities, new registration rules for food processing/handling facilities and a $500 registration fee for each location.
