Net farm income is forecast to be $54.0 billion in 2009, down $33.2 billion (38 percent) from the preliminary estimate of $87.2 billion for 2008. The 2009 forecast is $9 billion below the average of $63.2 billion in net farm income earned in the previous 10 years.

Cal Poly Professor Named President Of American Dairy Science Association Friday, August 28, 2009 (438 reads)
Phillip Tong, dairy science professor and director of Cal Poly's Dairy Products Technology Center, was recently named the 93rd president of the American Dairy Science Association. Tong was installed as the leader of the 103-year-old group at the organization's joint meeting with the American Society of Animal Science and Canadian Animal Science, held the week of July 13 in Montreal.

USDA Announces New Global Agricultural Trade System Thursday, August 27, 2009 (558 reads)
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) recently launched an enhanced U.S. foreign agricultural trade searchable database called the Global Agricultural Trade System (GATS). "We are pleased to offer our numerous customers this upgrade to enhance the availability of trade data," said FAS Administrator Michael Michener. "GATS will prove to be an incredibly valuable tool for quickly and easily performing research and analysis on U.S. trade data."
