On Monday, September 28th, Grade A nonfat dry milk increased 1.5¢ to $1.08, the highest since October 3, 2008. While daily nonfat dry milk spot trading continued to reflect the tightness in the market, the USDA’s Dairy Market News reported that current nonfat production remained light and was being used to fill contracted needs.
Buyers turned aggressive during the nonfat dry milk spot market on Tuesday as Grade A continued to raise 4¢ to $1.12. The trend continued through Wednesday as Grade A prices pushed up 3¢ to $1.15. Supplies remain tight in the county as buyers are turning to the spot market to fill orders.
The first day of October brought Grade A nonfat dry milk up another 3¢ to a bid of $1.18. While, western nonfat dry milk also continued to strengthen with a midpoint price reaching $1.03. According to the Dairy Market News there were limited spot offerings with reports of bids at prices above the range to secure the domestic and export business.
