The latest figures from the European Union show its dairy exports are quickly recovering and sales are now expected to exceed last year.
The European Commission dairy report says sales gathered pace in the September quarter, with butter exports for 2009 now 8.5 percent up on last year and whey powder exports more than 16 percent higher.
Skim milk powder and cheese exports also increased slightly on 2008 sales.
Stocks of butter held in private storage have been decreased according to the report, falling from 135,000 tons in July to 50,000 in December.
While sales are increasing, the Commission is estimating total milk production for the 2009-10 year will be similar or slightly below the previous year.
