CWT Assists with 1.6 million Pounds of Cheese and Whole Milk Powder Export Sales

Global Dairy Prices Continue To Fall at Fonterra Auction

International dairy prices continued to fall at the second GlobalDairyTrade auction of the new year. The GDT Price Index, which covers a variety of products and contract periods, dropped 1.4 percent with an average selling price of $2,405 per ton at the January 19th auction. This follows a 1.6 percent drop at the first sale of the year on January 5th.

Wisconsin’s Whey Processors Showing Patience As Prices Continue to Decline

Whey processors in Wisconsin  have been gritting their teeth while watching nonfat dry whey prices drop nearly 67 percent to less than 23 cents a pound during a steady decline that has lasted 79 painful weeks and doesn’t appear ready to let up. “We’re in this thing for the long term. This is just a cycle we’re going to ride out,” said Doug Wilke, senior vice president for dairy ingredient for Baraboo-based Foremost Farms USA, which is one of the state’s largest whey producers.

Darigold's Sunnyside Plant Set to Produce Nonfat Dry Milk Powder Following $90 Million Expansion

When it opened 25 years ago, Darigold’s Sunnyside plant produced nonfat powdered milk. Over time, powdered milk was set aside as production of cheddar, Gouda and other types of cheeses increased. Come spring, the plant at 400 Alexander Road will again start making nonfat dry milk powder as part of a $90 million, 30,000-square-foot expansion.

Ambrosia Dairy Acquisition Allows Ireland's Ornua to Enter China

Ornua, formerly the Irish Dairy Board, has purchased Ambrosia Dairy for an undisclosed amount, making the Shanghai-based Ambrosia Ornua's first manufacturing facility in China. The deal will give Ornua access to the growing Chinese foodservice market, where Ambrosia supplies dairy products such as specialty cheeses, yogurt and sour cream.

CWT Assists with 3.8 million Pounds of Cheese, Butter and Whole Milk Powder Export Sales

Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) has accepted 12 requests for export assistance to sell 2.090 million pounds (948 metric tons) of Cheddar, Gouda and Monterey Jack cheese, 1.323 million pounds of butter (600 metric tons), and 396,832 pounds (180 metric tons) of whole milk powder to customers in Asia, Central America, the Middle East and Oceania.

Fonterra Exports Record Volumes in December

Fonterra Co-operative Group has reported that they have exported record monthly volumes in December. The dairy exporter said it had shipped more than 300,000 tons of dairy products to overseas markets, around 10 percent more than its previous record month in December 2014.
