Dairy Farmers File New Petition on Milk Price Formula

Several California dairy groups have filed a petition asking the California Department of Food and Agriculture to hold a hearing to once again consider changing the state milk pricing formula—this time asking the department for an increase of up to 46 cents per hundredweight to the price of Class 4b milk, which is used to manufacture cheese.

U.S. Exports Reach Record Levels in April

EU May Export Update

European Union external dairy product exports were 5% higher in May than April 2013, which is common for this time of year. Cheese and whey products made up the majority of these exports, though volumes were slightly down on April for these products. Compared to April, the biggest rises in exports were for skim milk powder (SMP) and whole milk powder (WMP), while most other products remained steady.

Milk Production Up 1.6 Percent in June

This past June, milk production was up by a significant amount compared to the same month a year ago. According to the latest USDA “Milk Production” report milk production in the top 23 dairy states was up 1.6 percent ― 15.8 billion pounds in June 2013 compared to 15.54 billion pounds in June 2012.
Across the entire U.S., milk production was up 1.5 percent.

Leprino Foods Plant Gets Food Safety Recognition

Danone to Upgrade Siberia Dairy Plant

Danone will spend $90 million to upgrade its dairy plant in Siberia, company officials said in a meeting on Thursday. The new plant will increase production capabilities by 40% and focus on "up-to-date and more profitable products," the company said in a statement.
