Australia Competition Watchdog To Widen Dairy Industry Investigation

Australia’s competition watchdog will launch a broad investigation into the country’s dairy industry, the country’s deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce has announced. The Australia Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) launched an investigation into the timing and notice of the cuts, but Joyce said the ACCC will launch a broader investigation.

FDA Changes Certain Compliance Dates for Rules Implementing FSMA

ADPI's Washington council, Keller and Heckman LLP has provided ADPI membesr with the information regarding the extension of the FSMA compliance deadline for Grade "A" Milk and Milk Products.  Specifically, for Grade "A" milk and milk products covered by National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipments (NCIMS) under the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO), FDA is extending the date for compliance with the modernized CGMPs until September 17, 2018.  This extension will align the compliance date for the Grade "A" milk and milk products covered by the PMO with respect to the modernized CGMPs with the compliance date for such products with respect to the principal provisions of the human preventive controls requirements.

Yashili NZ Agrees to Sell $18.7m of Base Powder Dairy Products to Danone

USDA Buys Surplus Cheese, Extends MPP Deadline

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced plans to purchase approximately 11 million pounds of cheese from private inventories to assist food banks and pantries across the nation, while reducing a cheese surplus that is at its highest level in 30 years.  USDA also announced that it will extend the deadline for dairy producers to enroll in the Margin Protection Program (MPP) for Dairy to December 16, 2016, from the previous deadline of September 30.

Casein Used To Make Biodegradable Food Wrap

Researchers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.have found that milk's casein protein can be used to create a packaging film that is both edible and biodegradable. The milk protein would also help food stay fresh by keeping oxygen away with up to 500 times the efficiency of plastic, the researchers found.
