CWT Assists with 3.2 Million Pounds of Cheese and Whole Milk Powder Export Sales

Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) has accepted 9 requests for export assistance to sell 456,357 pounds (207 metric tons) of Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, and 2.756 million pounds (1250 metric tons) of whole milk powder to customers in Asia, Central and South America.

UC Berkeley Engineers Create 3D-Printed “Smart Cap” for Milk Cartons To Detect Signs of Spoilage

It might not be long before consumers can just hit “print” to create an electronic circuit or wireless sensor in the comfort of their homes. UC Berkeley engineers, in collaboration with colleagues at Taiwan’s National Chiao Tung University, are expanding the already impressive portfolio of 3D printing technology to include electrical components, such as resistors, inductors, capacitors and integrated wireless electrical sensing systems. They have put the new technology to the test by printing a wireless “smart cap” for a milk carton that detected signs of spoilage using embedded sensors.

Milk Production Up Slightly In June

Milk production in the U.S. totaled 17.4 billion pounds in June up 0.7 % from a year ago.  This is the smallest year-over-year increase since October of 2012.  Production per cow increased 3 pounds in June to 1,872 and the dairy herd grew by 50,000 cows to 9.3 million head.

New Zealand dairy processor a2 Milk Company Ltd rejected a takeover approach earlier this week, but said it was considering other potential suitors. Shares in a2 Milk, which has a market capitalization of about $323 million, slumped to a three-week low after the company told Australia's Freedom Foods and U.S. food giant Dean Foods that its offer for the company was it was not in the interest of the firm or its shareholders.
