DFA to Build Milk Processing Plant in Western Kansas

A development agreement has been approved for a $235 million dairy plant to be built in Garden City, Kansas. Meadowlark Dairy Nutrition, LLC, a subsidiary of Dairy Farmers of America, plans to build the approximately 321,000-square-foot plant which will include milk receiving and cream load-out, raw milk processing, pasteurized processing, milk evaporation, milk drying, filling and packaging, dry warehousing, shipping, support and utility spaces, sanitation corridors, office space and employee wellness areas.

July 2015 Milk Production Up 1.2%

U.S. milk production in July 2015 was estimated at 17.650 billion lbs., up just 1.2% from July 2014, according to USDA’s monthly report, released August 19th.  The number of milk cows was estimated at 9.322 million head, 54,000 head more than July 2014, and 1,000 head more than June 2015. Production per cow averaged 1,893 lbs. for July, 12 lbs. more July 2014.

Global Dairy Trade Prices Increase After 13-Year-Low

Prices at the Fonterra-owned Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction platform rose for the first time since March and mark a recovery from the previous auction’s 13-year price low. The GDT Price Index increased 14.8% at the August 18th auction, with an average selling price of US$1,974 per ton. However, volumes offered were 36,904 tons a drop of 20.7% from the August 4th auction.

Glanbia's Good Performance in First Half Driven by Global Performance Nutrition Division

Glanbia said its revenue in the half was up to €1.43 billion from €1.29 billion. The results included a strong result from Global Performance Nutrition with EBITA of €60.7 million a 17.4% increase on prior half year, constant currency (up 41.5% reported). Commenting Siobhán Talbot, Group Managing Director, said: “Glanbia delivered a good performance in the first six months of 2015 driven by a strong result from Global Performance Nutrition.”

First Milk Flows Through Fonterra's New Milk Powder Plant in Pahiatua
