Global Food Prices Drop 19% in 2015

World food prices fell 19% in 2015, with meat, dairy, oils, sugars and cereals all affected by weak global demand and a strengthening US dollar. The Food Price Index, collated by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, averaged 164.1 points last year, down from 202 points in 2014, marking the fourth consecutive annual decline. Dairy recorded the biggest fall last year, with prices down 28.5% last year compared to 2014, marking its lowest annual average since 2009.

Bega Cheese Reaches $1 Billion Mark

Australia-based Bega Cheese reached $1 billion in market value for the first time last month, and the company is now the Australia's fifth-largest dairy processor. Bega started as a regional dairy co-operative and became a listed business on the Australian Securities Exchange in 2011. In October, Bega entered into a joint venture with Blackmores, a naturopathic health group. Under the 50-50 joint venture Bega Cheese will be the exclusive supplier for a "range of nutritional foods", including infant formula, "which will be available early in 2016".
