Fonterra Adds Volumes to GlobalDairyTrade

Fonterra has again increased the volume of product to be offered at the GlobalDairyTrade event to be held on February 18, 2013. Volumes have been increased for all of the main products on offer. In the case of anhydrous milkfat (AMF) and skim milk powder (SMP) more product will be offered than at the previous auction.

DairyAmerica and Fonterra End SMP Export Deal

US marketing cooperative DairyAmerica and New Zealand-based dairy giant Fonterra have called time on their 13-year old skim milk powder (SMP) export agreement. Under the agreement, which was signed in 2001, Fonterra has acted as DairyAmerica's export agent for skim milk powder. The agreement will end on August 1, the companies have confirmed.

Whey Protein Shows Promise as a Low-Calorie Fat Substitute

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts have demonstrated that microparticulated whey protein could be a fat substitute, suitable for low-calorie dressings, sauces and other food emulsions. The team found treating MWP suspensions with high-pressure homogenization reduced protein particle size, improved stability and increased viscosity, according to the study published in Food Research International.

CWT Assists with 5.8 Million Pounds of Cheese, Butter and Whole Milk Powder Export Sales

Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) has accepted 26 requests for export assistance to sell 4.006 million pounds (1,817 metric tons) of Cheddar, Gouda and Monterey Jack cheese, 1.645 million pounds (746 metric tons) of 82% butter and 180,779 pounds (82 metric tons) of whole milk powder to customers in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
