March Milk Production Up 4.2%

On Thursday, the USDA reported that milk production in 23 leading dairy states was up 4.3 percent in March compared to the same month a year earlier. Across all 50 states, production was up 4.2 percent.
It follows February’s hefty increase of 4.3 percent (across all 50 states).

Whey protein has become one of the United States dairy export success stories! Since 2006, whey protein exports have grown around 38% with approximately two thirds (450,479 tons) of the whey produced in the United States being shipped overseas in 2011. Two additional "huge export poteintial" ingredients are cheese, which had a 29% export growth to 200,000+ tons in 2011 and milk powder with 457,312 tons being exported.
