WASDE: Milk Price Forecast Continues To Climb

The latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report released from USDA has lowered the milk production forecast for 2016 from last month as the pace of cow herd expansion has slowed. Fat basis exports are lowered for 2016 as slowing sales of butterfat products more than offset higher whole milk powder (WMP) exports. Cheese, butter, nonfat dry milk, and whey prices for 2016 and 2017 are forecast higher as demand remains robust. Class III and Class IV price forecasts are raised for both 2016 and 2017 as the component product prices forecasts are raised.

CWT Assists with 3 Million Pounds of Cheese, Butter, and Whole Milk Powder Export Sales

Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) has accepted 12 requests for export assistance to sell 1.598 million pounds (725 metric tons) of butter, 972,239 pounds (441 metric tons) of Cheddar, Gouda, and Monterey Jack cheese, and 440,925 pounds (200 metric tons) of whole milk powder to customers in Asia, Oceania and South America.

Danone To Acquire U.S. Organic Foods Group Whitewave in $12.5 Billion Deal

Danone has announced that they would double the size of their U.S. business by buying organic foods producer WhiteWave Foods Co for $10.4 billion in its largest acquisition since 2007. The purchase will help Danone pursue affluent consumers by adding WhiteWave’s popular health food offerings such as Silk almond milk, Earthbound Farm organic salad and Horizon organic milk to its lineup as it struggles in more challenging markets such as Brazil and Russia.

Rabobank Forecasts Dairy Prices Will Remain on Course To Rise In The First Half of 2017

While Rabobank still forecasts prices to rise in 2017, Kevin Bellamy Dairy Analyst with Rabobank has said that these risk being dampened by continuing weak demand due to low oil prices, trade bans and lack of affordability in emerging markets. “As a result, the light at the end of the tunnel remains undimmed,” he said.

FrieslandCampina Enters Fast Growing Pakistani Dairy Market Through Engro Foods

Royal FrieslandCampina N.V. has signed a share purchase agreement with Engro Corporation to acquire 51 percent of the shares in its subsidiary Engro Foods Limited, in partnership with the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Dutch development bank FMO. The acquisition of Engro Foods, which is the second largest dairy company in Pakistan, enables FrieslandCampina to obtain a key position in Central Asia. Pakistan is the third largest milk producing country in the world with an annual production of 38 billion liters of milk.

20,000 Pounds of Cheeese Stolen In Wisconsin

A truck carrying 20,000 pounds ($46,000) of cheese was reported stolen in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, last Friday on July 4th. The cheese was in a semitrailer parked at a business in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek when it went missing Thursday.

Global Dairy Prices Slip, Whole Milk Powder Prices Fall 1.6 Percent

World dairy prices dropped 0.4 percent at the July 5th GlobalDairyTrade auction. Compared to the last auction when 23,089 tons was on offer, the July 5th auction had 32,500 tons of product sold (an increase of 40.8%), with an average price of US$2,345.

Fonterra’s Lichfield Drier Set To Be The Largest Milk Powder Dryer In The World

Fonterra is on target to commission its new world class drier at Lichfield in the Waikato valley in North Island in September this year.  Sam Mikaere, South Waikato Operations Manager said “this is not any drier, along with our D2 drier down in Darfield, this will be the biggest milk powder drier on the planet”.
