Arla is strengthening its presence in the Brazilian market by announcing a shared ownership with its longtime partner, Brazil’s largest dairy company, Vigor Alimentos S.A. Finn Hansen, Head of Arla’s international markets stated, "Vigor is one of Brazil’s leading dairy producers with a first class distribution network. We have a history of excellent cooperation and it’s a natural step for us to further build on this partnership to explore the great potential in Brazil,” Vigor’s main product categories include powdered and condensed milk, dairy and spreads.

Nestlé Mexico Announces Six-Year Investment To Increase Milk Output

Nestlé Mexico has announced plans to invest a total of 700 million pesos ($53M) over the next six years to increase milk production in the country. Under the commitments announced, Nestlé Mexico will invest 400 million pesos ($30M) to finance production and infrastructure. and another 300 million pesos ($23M) in providing technical assistance in the milk and whey supply chains in Mexico. Products made by Nestlé Mexico include powered milk, sweet condensed milk, evaporated milk and dairy cream.

Schreiber Foods Opens New Headquarters and Research Center

The ribbon has been cut on the new $85 million headquarters and research center for Schreiber Foods in downtown Green Bay, Wisconsin. Company president Michael Haddad said moving employees from six locations to one provided instant benefits. "The big benefit was getting what I'd call mental and physical adjacencies," Haddad said. "It's more than getting everyone under one roof. It's designing it to get the right people together."

Bega Cheese Signs 5-Year, $100M UHT Milk Deal With Major Chinese Supermarket Chain

Bega Cheese has signed a five-year, $100 million UHT milk supply and distribution agreement with one of China's leading retail groups, Chongqing General Trading Group (CGTG), which has a 50% market share in the Chongqing municipality, which has a population of about 30 million. "We are pleased to be breaking new ground and it will involve UHT product and it will expand to our other products as well," Bega Executive Chairman Barry Irvin said.

Butter, Block and Barrel Cheddar Prices Hit Record Highs on Chicago Mercantile Exchange

The run-up in dairy product prices continued Friday as barrel cheddar cheese, block cheddar cheese and butter each hit their highest prices ever on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Block cheddar settled at $2.45 per pound, Barrel cheddar settled at $2.43 per pound while butter traded Friday at $3.06 per pound.

No Change At GlobalDairyTrade September 16th Auction

Overall prices were unchanged in the September 16 GlobalDairyTrade auction. While the GDT Price Index was unchanged, there was some movement in individual commodity prices. Milk powders showed slight gains, while butter and anhydrous milkfat prices declined by just over 2%. The largest declines came from cheese (-6.5%) and butter milk powder (-6.9%).
