First Milk Proposes Closure of Cheese Plant

The British dairy processor First Milk has announced plans to close its Maelor cheese packing facility near Wrexham in Wales by the end of May 2014. The creamery packs 30,000 tons of cheese a year.

Commission Challenges Russia Over Ban on Lithuanian Goods

The European Commission is challenging Russia at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to justify a ban on imports of Lithuanian dairy products. Russia announced its ban on imports of Lithuanian dairy products on October 7, but notified the measure to the WTO only on October 11 and has so far ignored EU requests for more information. Around 20% of the Baltic republic's exports go to Russia, worth a total of €1 billion annually.
