Dairy Product Prices Drop at Global Trade

Prices of dairy products fell at the December 4th GlobalDairyTrade auction, the first decline in four sales, led by whole milk powder and cheddar. Whole milk powder, the biggest product by volume, fell 3.5% to $3,170 a ton and cheddar dropped 2.4% to $3,372 a ton.

Morinaga and FrieslandCampina have both gotten the green light to sell their bovine lactoferrin (bLF) products as novel food ingredients.The European Commission (EC) made the decision to approve lactoferrin, meaning the ingredient can now be used in foods including sports, medical and infant nutritional products across the EU.

Fonterra Looking To Expand With New Milk Powder Plant

Fonterra said it was looking to expand its milk processing capacity in the lower North Island of New Zealand by building a new milk powder plant at its Pahiatua site. Fonterra, which last week officially opened a new $500 million factory in Darfield, New Zealand, said it will apply for consents to build a new high-efficiency milk powder plant at Pahiatua, in northern Wairarapa, to process an additional 2.5 million liters of milk a day.

TreeHouse Foods has purchased Associated Milk Producers' cheese and pudding business, a move that, with its recent purchase of sauce-maker Naturally Fresh, will give TreeHouse an additional $100 million in annual sales, said CEO Sam Reed. The aseptic cheese and pudding, made by Associated Milk Producers, is sold to retail outlets and food service firms.

CWT Assists with 2.4 Million Pounds of Cheese, Butter, and Whole Milk Powder Export Sales
