Parmalat Purchases The Business Operations of Latterie Friulane

Parmalat has bought the production, sales and distribution operations of Italian dairy Consorzio Cooperativo Latterie Friulane, including the firm's pasteurized and UHT milk, yogurt, Montasio cheese, mozzarella and ricotta cheese. The deal also transfers ownership of a production facility, office buildings and existing contracts to Parmalat.

In Memoriam – Don Utz

We are very sad to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Don Utz this week. Donald "Don" Clair Utz, 69, of Frederick County, Virginia, died suddenly Monday, January 5, 2015, at Winchester Medical Center. Don had been a part of the Maryland & Virginia family for many years, first as a customer, then a business partner and most recently as an esteemed member of their Executive staff. No one knew the balancing business like Don. The ingredients division would not be where it is today without Don’s leadership and guidance. He retired as COO of Manufacturing Operations for Maryland/Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative on December 31, 2014 after 45 years in the dairy business.

Russia May Be Open to Import of Dairy Products From India Soon

Russia could open its market to direct imports of dairy products from India, as a result of the closure of indirect import routes from India through Europe due to sanctions. A delegation from Russia visited and inspected Indian dairy plants and cheese processing facilities last month and expressed interest in exports to markets in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
