CWT Assists with 4.6 Million Pounds of Cheese, Butter and Whole Milk Powder Export Sales

Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) has accepted 25 requests for export assistance to sell 3.889 million pounds (1,764 metric tons) of Cheddar, Gouda and Monterey Jack cheese, 209,439 pounds (95 metric tons) of butter and 518,086 pounds (235 metric tons) of whole milk powder to customers in Africa, Asia, Central America and the Middle East.

Milk Price Hike Puts Question Mark Over SMP Exports

Mother Dairy, one of the biggest sellers of milk  in north  India, resorted  to repeated increase  in price of milk,  followed by hike in rates by private dairy Gopaljee Ananda right in the middle of flush season of 2013-14. This has divided the Indian milk sector with private sector putting the blame on inefficient procurement by state-run firms as well as cooperatives, and the other camp attributing  it to incentives given on exports of skimmed milk powder (SMP).

United Dairy Products Sold For $70 Million

Hong Kong-based businessman ­William Hui has acquired Australia's biggest privately-owned dairy processor United Dairy Power for about $70 million in the latest deal in the red hot Australian dairy sector. United Dairy Power operates in South Australia and Victoria, processing 500 million litres of milk every year, of which 350 million litres are collected directly from UDP suppliers while the remainder comes from competitors.

Senate Approves Five-Year Farm Bill, Sending it to Obama

A five-year farm bill was approved by the Senate, sending the legislation to President Obama for his expected signature. The nearly $1 trillion Agriculture Act of 2014 will scrap direct payments in favor of enhanced crop insurance, revise commodity supports, create a new dairy program, and make several other changes to agricultural policy, including an approximate $8 billion cut to SNAP through a reduction of fraud and misuse.

NZX Dairy Derivatives Granted Trading Approval

The US regulatory agency the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has registered NZX as a Foreign Board of Trade under the US Commodity Exchange Act. The registration will allow NZX to permit direct access to participants in the US to trade NZX Dairy Derivatives on NZX’s trading platform. Whole Milk Powder, Skim Milk Powder and Anhydrous Milk Fat Futures, and Whole Milk Powder Options can be traded on NZX.
