Study Suggests Premeal Whey Protein Manages Blood Glucose, Boosts Insulin Response

Whey protein consumption before meals resulted in reduced blood glucose levels and significant improvements in insulin and C-peptide responses in type 2 diabetes patients, a small study in Diabetologia revealed. Researchers also found early insulin response was 96% higher in the whey protein cohort compared with the placebo arm.

Agropur Buys Four Canadian Manufacturing Plants for $356 Million

Canadian grocer Sobeys will sell four milk, yogurt and ice cream manufacturing plants to Quebec dairy cooperative Agropur in a $356 million deal. Agropur will continue to produce and supply Lucerne brand dairy products to Sobeys, Safeway and IGA stores in Western Canada.

Lone Star Milk Producers Plan New Multimillion-Dollar Dairy Ingredients Plant In Texas

Lone Star Milk Producers, a farmer-owned dairy co-op, plans to break ground this fall on a new multimillion-dollar dairy ingredients plant in Canyon, Texas. “The plant’s capacity is currently designed to process approximately 2 million pounds of milk each day and will be capable of manufacturing cream, condensed milk, butter, ingredients for infant formula and various premium powders,” Lone Star President Jim Baird said in a statement.

CWT Assists with 16.9 Million Pounds of Cheese, Butter and Whole Milk Powder Export Sales

Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) has accepted 21 requests for export assistance to sell 15.615 million pounds (7,083 metric tons) of Cheddar, Gouda, Monterey Jack cheese, 1.246 million pounds (565 metric tons) of butter (82% butterfat) and 837,757 pounds (380 metric tons) of whole milk powder to customers in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, South America and Oceania.

USDEC: NDM/SMP Exports Hit Record High In May

Dairy Crest Announces Global Partnership With Fonterra to Sell Demineralized Whey

Dairy Crest, the leading UK-owned dairy foods company, is announcing that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Fonterra, the world’s leading dairy exporter. Fonterra will market and sell two products for the fast growing global infant formula market. Dairy Crest had previously announced a £45 million investment to manufacture demineralized whey powder. Fonterra will receive a commission to sell all of Dairy Crest’s demineralized whey production and will also provide technical and engineering support. The agreement is for a minimum of five years.

GlobalDairyTrade Prices Falls 4.9%

The GDT Price Index fell by 4.9% at the July 1st GlobalDairyTrade (GDT) auction. Prices declined across all products with the exception of butter milk powder (BMP). The average winning price was US$3,595 per metric ton. Prices were put under pressure by a big increase in supply, with a maximum supply of 43,249 tons, up almost 33% from the previous auction, with 41,513 tons sold.

Speculation Circling That Fonterra May Procure Whey from UK's Dairy Crest
