Agropur Buys Four Canadian Manufacturing Plants for $356 Million

Lone Star Milk Producers, a farmer-owned dairy co-op, plans to break ground this fall on a new multimillion-dollar dairy ingredients plant in Canyon, Texas. “The plant’s capacity is currently designed to process approximately 2 million pounds of milk each day and will be capable of manufacturing cream, condensed milk, butter, ingredients for infant formula and various premium powders,” Lone Star President Jim Baird said in a statement.

The GDT Price Index fell by 4.9% at the July 1st GlobalDairyTrade (GDT) auction. Prices declined across all products with the exception of butter milk powder (BMP). The average winning price was US$3,595 per metric ton. Prices were put under pressure by a big increase in supply, with a maximum supply of 43,249 tons, up almost 33% from the previous auction, with 41,513 tons sold.
