California Ag Secretary Grants Hearing to Consider Milk Pricing Amendment

In response to a July petition by California dairy producer groups, California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Secretary Karen Ross has agreed to hold a public hearing to consider amendments to the state’s milk pricing program. This September meeting will address "inequities" in the state’s whey pricing formula and a proposal to replace a recent price adjustment.

The 2.4% decrease in the GDT Price Index is not a massive downwards swing in prices indicating the market is not overly concerned about quality issues of the products Fonterra is selling via the auction. Fonterra does not sell whey products on GDT.
