Murray Goulburn To Focus On Consumer Cheeses, Dairy Beverages and Nutritional Powers in Asian Markets

Australia's Murray Goulburn plans expand in Asian markets over the next decade, as demand for dairy grows in the region by up to 6% each year, according to Managing Director Gary Helou. The company will focus on production of consumer cheeses, dairy beverages and nutritional powders including infant formula. MG will invest up to $500 million in existing plants to boost capacity for new brands and more supply, Helou said.

The merger between EGM Walhorn and Arla Foods has been approved by the relevant competition authorities. The merger is set to take effect on August 1, 2014. Following the merger, Arla will have 13,500 cooperative members and for the first time, members in the Netherlands.
