Rocketing dairy export prices pushed New Zealand's terms of trade to their highest levels in 40 years in the September quarter, which is seen as a strong support for the economy. Dairy exports were the star performer, rising 24 percent to their highest levels since 2008.

U.S. Sees Rise in Protein-Rich Yogurt Products

Protein claims are dominating the U.S. yogurt market. More than one third of all new products during the year ending September 2013 touted a high-protein platform, according to data from Innova Market Insights. Many of these new products target active male consumers, resulting in the establishment of a U.S. subcategory called "brogurt." New protein-rich yogurt products introduced during the same time period accounted for 10% of the global market and slightly more than 6% in Western Europe.

NZ Whole Milk Powder Exports To China Reaches Record Levels

More than 60% of all the whole milk powder (WMP) that left NZ shores in October was put on a boat bound for China. New Zealand exported 86,405 tons of WMP to China in October. This was the largest monthly export volume ever recorded for WMP exports to China.

Australian Milk Production Down 4.1%
