Diane D. Lewis Awarded ADPI’s Award of Merit

The American Dairy Products Institute (ADPI) is pleased to announce Diane D. Lewis as the 2011 Recipient of the Award of Merit. The Award of Merit was established in 1991 to recognize individuals who have made a significant difference in the processed dairy products industry.
“ADPI members widely acknowledged Diane’s numerous contributions to the processed dairy products industry throughout her distinguished career,” said ADPI’s CEO, Dale Kleber.  “ADPI is pleased to recognize her service to the industry with this award.”

Diane Lewis has been involved in the dairy industry for her entire 30-year career.  Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Ms. Lewis studied food science, specializing in dairy products at Michigan State University where she graduated in 1980.  Her initial entry into the dairy world began with the USDA as a dairy grader and inspector.  After several years, she was promoted to the Washington, DC headquarters as a dairy products marketing specialist.  During that time, Lewis was named the U.S. Delegate to the Codex Committee on Milk and Milk Products (CCMMP) where she represented the interests of the U.S. dairy manufacturers and marketers from 1988 – 1994.

In recognition of her superior performance in the development of international standards for milk and milk products and her leadership in international dairy product issues in 1995, Lewis was awarded the prestigious USDA Secretary of Agriculture Award for Personal and Professional Excellence.

Lewis’ considerable efforts in the development and revision of international standards for milk and dairy products continued at the U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) where she has served as vice president and later as senior vice president of market access and regulatory affairs since 1996.

In addition to her government and industry responsibilities, Lewis has served on the Executive Committee of the International Dairy Federation, Treasurer of the Mastitis Council and has been an invaluable resource for the ADPI Technical Committee in matters of international trade.

The members of ADPI and the entire dairy industry congratulate Diane D. Lewis, the 2011 recipient of ADPI’s Award of Merit, and wish her well in her retirement.
