3-A SSI Issues Revised Standard for Belt-Type Feeders

3-A Sanitary Standards, Inc. (3-A SSI) announces the release of revised 3-A® Sanitary Standard for Belt-Type Feeders, 75-01. This is a major revision of a key industry standard for processing equipment in which a belt(s) is used to feed or meter products and may include integral mechanisms to assist or maintain flow of product.  The revision features many new and updated requirements from the previous version dated November 1996.

This 3-A Sanitary Standard applies to the sanitary aspects of belt-type feeders used to convey products at a controlled rate, including allowed materials of construction and fabrication techniques.  Product enters the feeder at the inlet hopper/chute and exits at the head pulley or enclosure discharge.

3-A SSI formulates sanitary standards and accepted practices for the sanitary design, fabrication, installation and cleanability of dairy and food equipment or systems used to handle, process and package consumable products where a high degree of sanitation is required.  3-A SSI currently maintains approximately 70 3-A Sanitary Standards for a wide range of dairy and other food processing equipment, from fittings to silo tanks.  The goal of 3-A SSI is to protect consumable products from contamination and to ensure that all product surfaces can be mechanically (CIP) cleaned or easily dismantled for manual cleaning.

A copy of the complete current standard is available for purchase via the 3-A SSI web site under ‘Purchase 3-A Standards & Accepted Practices’, or go to and search the catalog of 3-A Sanitary Standards.
