 India Dairy Product Exports Leap

The volume of dairy product exported from India shot up last quarter. During the third quarter in 2012 nearly 20,000 tons of dairy product was exported from India. This is higher than the normal volumes of skim milk powder (SMP) and casein which have been exported from India. The casein was mainly heading to the US, while the SMP moved into neighboring countries such as Bangladesh and Pakistan and up into the Middle East. Earlier in 2012 India was an importer of SMP, importing nearly 14,000 tons of SMP during the first quarter of 2012, whereas the reverse of this is now the case.
