 European Dairy Export Volumes Up

In 2012 the EU grew their dairy exports by 5%. The product to record the biggest increase in both percentage terms and absolute terms was cheese. Cheese exports increased by nearly 14% last year. This was primarily driven by larger volumes being exported to Russia which accounts for nearly one third of all the cheese exported from the EU.

Whole milk powder (WMP) exports were down slightly this year with the majority of this product moving into markets in the Middle East. Oman was the single largest market for WMP sourced from the EU, in 2012. Algeria is also a very important market for EU WMP as is Nigeria.
