Arla Opens World's Largest Fresh Milk Dairy

Arla Foods has opened the world's largest fresh milk dairy outside Aylesbury, the county town of Buckinghamshire, England.

Following several weeks of trials, milk has started flowing out of the £150m facility and into Arla’s retail customers’ stores.

The dairy has the capacity to process up to one billion liters of fresh milk, sourced from the co-operative’s dairy farmers.

“Our Aylesbury dairy is the largest single investment for the co-operative and, as market leader, Arla is setting the future standard for the dairy industry. We are now beginning to ramp up our operations,” said Arla Foods CEO Peter Lauritzen.

Arla announced its intention to build the 70-acre dairy in November 2009, to give it a strategic base from which to transport milk to its customers in and around the London area.
