 US Dairy Stock Piles Declining

US stocks of butter and cheese have declined significantly during the month of October but still remain above year ago levels.  It is normal for dairy product stocks to decline at this time of the year but the rate of decline this year has been quicker than normal.  This has helped bring stock levels down to more normal levels.

Butter stocks still remain 20% higher than they were a year ago despite the volume of product in stock declining by a massive 25% during the month of October.  At the end of October there was 173.8 million pounds of butter remained in storage.

Cheese stocks dropped to 1024 million pounds at the end of October 2013. This figure is 4% lower than stocks were as at 30 September 2013 but still 3% higher than they were a year ago.
