German Dairy Company Molkerei Ammerland Will Stop Selling Product on GDT

German dairy company Molkerei Ammerland will no longer be selling products on GlobalDairyTrade (GDT).

Molkerei Ammerland, one of Europe’s leading dairy cooperatives, first joined GDT in September 2014 as the first seller to offer Sweet Whey Powder (SWP) on the platform.

Molkerei Ammerland CEO Ralf Hinrichs said that “this is not a decision we have taken lightly, and we have the utmost respect for GDT. However, it has become clear that offering and selling product on the GDT platform does not align with our newly defined sales and marketing strategy.”

The last published price for SWP sold on GDT was US$1155/t at the January 20, 2015 auction which was less than the price which equivalent product was trading at in the German market. Since that time product offered by Molkerei Ammerland has either not sold or the price has not been published due to it being the same as the opening price, while at the same time prices in the German domestic market have been strong.

GDT Acting Director Eric Hansen said “we have discussed various options with Ammerland over the past several months, and we fully support their decision to withdraw from GDT.”

Ralf Hinrichs said “we would like to thank GDT for the support they have provided us throughout our participation, and we wish them well for the future. We will continue to follow developments of their trading platform with interest”.

Molkerei Ammerland was formed in 1885 by seven dairy farmers in the Ammerland region in northern Germany. The company now has more than 2000 suppliers and processes 1.5 billion kg milk per annum or approximately 4.5 million litres per day.
