Yogurt Named Food Trend of the Decade

The Dairy Council of California has named yogurt as the food trend of the decade, with its convenience and multiple health benefits funding its rising popularity.

The addition of vitamins, minerals and prebiotics and probiotics and other nutrients contributed to a “health halo” few other foods enjoyed, the Dairy Council said.

“It really does define what I think America wants from its food supply," said Harry Balzer, vice president with market researcher, the NPD Group.

The Dairy Council’s research found yogurts were most popular with families and adults in their 30s. Consumption dropped as consumers aged.
