 Saputo Closing Plant, Consolidates Distribution

Saputo Inc. has announced it is closing a plant in Brampton, Ont., and is also consolidating its distribution activities in Toronto into one distribution center located northwest of the city, in Vaughan.

The Brampton plant, which processes milk and cream products, will cease operations by Oct. 31.

The company said a total of 190 employees will be affected by these announcements. Of that number, 120 employees will have the chance to relocate within the company's dairy-products division, Saputo said.

The moves will cost Canada's largest dairy company about $4.6 million after tax, it said. The company expects after-tax savings to reach $6.5 million.
